NYC Sports Person: Glenn Rodriguez, Founder of Grapplin’ Gorillas

Glenn Rodriguez is the Founder/Director of Grapplin’ Gorillas a Manhattan-based wrestling program. He is certified as a Youth Wrestling Coach through USA Wrestling, a Personal Trainer and is the former head coach of the Lower and Middle School wrestling programs (grades 5-9) at the Allen-Stevenson School on the Upper East Side of Manhattan.

NYC Sports Person: Mat Levine, Co-Founder of Doc’s Lacrosse.

Mat Levine co-founded Doc’s NYC Lacrosse in 1996, the first-ever youth lacrosse program in New York City. Doc’s now has nearly 800 boys and girls playing at six different age groups at locations in Manhattan, the Bronx, Queens, and Brooklyn.

NYC Sports Person: Wendy Hilliard

Wendy Hilliard was the first African American gymnast to represent the United States in international competition and remained on the Rhythmic Gymnastics National Team a record-setting nine times; serving twice as National Team Captain. In 1996 she founded her namesake gymnastics foundation in New York and since that time has been providing free gymnastics to thousands of inner city youth in NYC.

Kate Tempesta is the founder of her namesake Urban Golf Academy through which she has been teaching golf to New York City kids. Kate was voted one of Golf Digest’s Best Golf Teachers in New York State (2012) as well as Golf Digest’s 50 Best Women Teachers in America (2012).
