Bronx House offers pre-k, youth, teen and adult sports programs. The swimming program includes: LEARN TO SWIM – Classes for Beginners, Advanced Beginners, Intermediates, and Advanced swimmers are offered for ages 5 & up (Youth Lessons 5-11, Teen Lessons 12-17 and Adult 18 & up); Level 1: GOLDFISH-Water Exploration – This course is taught in the shallow section where students are taught supported floating, rhythmic breathing, flutter kicking, gliding and finning; Level 2: CATFISH-Primary Skills – Skills taught include learning to float without support, putting their face in the water, alternate arm action for the front crawl stroke and deep water orientation; Level 3: FLYING FISH-Stroke Readiness – Taught in the deep end, swimmers will learn how to jump in and tread water. Gliding, front crawl with breathing, back crawl, elementary backstroke kicking and a kneeling dive will also be taught; Level 4: DOLPHIN-Stroke Development – Skills taught include breaststroke and sidestroke kicks, elementary backstroke, standing front dive and basic rescue skills; Level 5: MARLIN-Stroke Refinement – Strokes taught include breaststroke and sidestroke. Students refine all other strokes. Open turns on front and back are taught at this level; Level 6: SHARK-Skill Proficiency – Polish strokes to swim with ease, efficiency, power and endurance. Learn flip turns, pike and feet first surface dives and basics of CPR.
