Beat the Streets Wrestling

The mission of Beat the Streets is to develop the full human and athletic potential of the urban youth and to strengthen the culture of New York City wrestling. We work directly with the New York City Department of Education’s Public Schools Athletic League (PSAL) to operate and manage 65 high school programs and run the BTS Junior League, which has over 40 middle school-age programs. We are also building one of the largest girls wrestling initiatives in the country. In all, we have over 2,500 student-athletes participating in wrestling annually and they come from all corners of New York City and the five boroughs.

It is our contention that wrestling provides such an uncommon combination of skills and life lessons, that it is the preeminent vehicle available for positive youth development. Because many of us are or were wrestlers, coaches, and officials, we have first-hand knowledge and experience which leads us to believe in the power of wrestling to instill self-sufficiency and sportsmanship, to develop an appreciation and capacity for hard work, and to foster the physical and mental strength and flexibility which builds character and capability — all of which are transferable skills applicable to life beyond the mat.

Tests and challenges make us stronger, and no other activity offers as many opportunities for growth, and in as many ways, as wrestling.

We also run a variety of practices at our facility in SoHo. Check out the schedule here, as it is regularly updated. To participate, you need a parental permission form and insurance (form available here). We do not charge enrollment or membership fees. Our program is supported through donations by those who believe in the power of wrestling to improve the lives of our youth.
