Project Play Reports

Project Play is reporting on the latest developments in youth sports and physical activity related to COVID-19. We’re treating it like a beat – producing journalism to meet your news and information needs. Do you have a topic that you would like Project Play to explore in future COVID-19 youth sports coverage? Email Jon Solomon at jon.solomon@aspeninstitute.org.

Even during normal times, low-income communities face steep barriers to youth sports participation. Now, many youth are losing their support system from sports. And they’re losing sports at the moment they most need it.

A key topic of discussion in Washington last week was the economic relief bill drafted to stabilize the economy and fund the fight against coronavirus. The bill will also have significant impacts on youth sports.

Due to the impact of COVID-19 on our communities, we are EXTENDING the Project Play Champion application deadline through April 15 at 11:59 pm ET.

The Project Play Champions program annually recognizes twenty local and national organizations who are taking new, meaningful, and specific actions consistent with the Project Play framework.

Has your organization taken a new action in response to COVID-19?
